August 12 · 6:00 PM — 10:00 PM
10:00 PM
Learn to turn a block of wood into a beautiful bespoke candlestick! Taught by Ellie Richards, this workshop will explore form and function of turning a simple spindle. Expand your knowledge of woodworking and the use of the lathe and further your creative path as we cover basic spindle-turning techniques and the fundamentals of design. Come as a total beginner or an advanced woodworker and use the sculptural candlestick to light up new ways of making.
The lathe is the woodworking equivalent to the pottery wheel. If you ask someone who does it, they’ll tell you there are few things more meditative and calming than turning. Your instructors will take you through the basics of the lathe and how it works, how to safely operate one, and how to turn a beautiful wooden candlestick from a block of rough lumber to a finished, functional masterpiece.
Price includes materials (including one candle). Technical information will include machine tool use, woodturning, and basic lathe safety.
Open to students age 18+ only.
